Water Lily Project is proud to be spreading its support for women to Africa. We donated craft packs to WLP supporter Elizabeth Cottell who took them to Malawi where her mother Barbara Lamport-Stokes has lived since just after the war. Barbara, pictured here with one of her carers Angela is now 98 – a keen knitter and seamstress, she and her carers have made small cushion covers, lavender bags, small stuffed cloth balls for babies to play with, cloth bags for children and place settings.
Malawi ranks as one of the 25 poorest nations in the world Currently, about one in every 10 residents between the ages of 15 and 49 are HIV positive and more than a million children living in the country have been orphaned by the disease.
WLP is so delighted that our craft packs of material are bringing some joy to Barbara’s community. What an amazing woman Barbara is!
